What we do
BedBreakdown is a curated directory of European beach resorts verified to sleep a family of five — two adults and three children — in real beds. Every property listed here has been researched by hand, with the bed configuration read directly from the property's own page rather than taken from the "sleeps 5" badge a booking site displays.
Each card shows you exactly what's in the room: how many beds, what type, and crucially how many of those five sleeping spots are a proper bed versus a sofa bed. If your third child ends up on a pull-out, you'll know before you book.
Why we built it
Finding a hotel that genuinely sleeps five is harder than it looks. "Family room" means different things in different countries, on different booking sites, and sometimes in different rooms at the same property. A room that "accommodates 5" often puts the fifth person on a sofa bed in the lounge — fine for a toddler, less fine for a teenager.
We got tired of clicking through pages of results only to discover, buried in a paragraph of room description, that the configuration wasn't what the headline number implied. So we built the resource we wished existed.
How we verify
Every room type in the directory has been checked against the property's own website or a primary source — not an OTA's repackaged description. We read the bed configuration from the room detail page, count the beds by type (king, single, bunk berth, sofa bed, cot), and record that alongside the date we checked it.
That date matters. Hotels reshuffle furniture, room categories get renamed, and configurations change between seasons. A check from two years ago is still useful — it tells you the room existed and had those beds at that point — but you should still confirm the details with the property before you book.
How we stay up to date
Each card shows the date the bed configuration was last verified. We revisit listings periodically and mark cards that are getting stale, so you can see at a glance how fresh the information is.
